Week 5 Stock Report: Maye Keeps Climbing, Allen Ran Through Los Angeles, and Chicago Fell Apart Without a Quarterback - cover artStock Report

Five weeks in, a quarter of the league has shown you the same identity three times running, which is when a trend stops being a sample and starts being a team. Working from the box scores and FantasySixPack's recap, here is the Week 5 stock report, with a real, spike, or mirage call on each.

Risers

Drake Maye followed up the win in Buffalo by going 26 of 34 for 374 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-17 demolition of the Raiders. REAL, and no longer quietly: back-to-back statement games, rookie Kyle Williams ripping a 49-yard score, and DeMario Douglas catching two more. New England is 3-2 and the offense is the reason.

Josh Allen decided Sunday night in Los Angeles was a track meet: 121 rushing yards and a score on 10 carries, an efficient 210 through the air, and James Cook grinding out 111 and two more on the ground in a 37-34 shootout win over the Rams. REAL. Buffalo answered its home dud against New England with its two best wins of the season back to back... and our league got paid on it.

Bucky Irving makes us eat a take. Two weeks ago this column listed him with the fallers; on Thursday night he ran 21 times for 165 yards with a 72-yard breakaway as winless Tampa Bay walked into Dallas and won 24-16 outright. Jalon Daniels, the undrafted rookie, was a clean 19 of 25. SPIKE for the team, REAL for the back: that was the second straight week the volume was there, and now the burst is too.

Jordan Love picked apart the Bears blitz for 367 yards on 31 attempts in a 31-7 rout, with Christian Watson going for 143 and two scores and rookie Matthew Golden adding 123. Jahmyr Gibbs answered Detroit's Carolina embarrassment with 151 and two on 25 carries in a 45-21 road wipeout of Arizona, Jared Goff threw three scores, and the Lions look like themselves again. And Jaylen Warren had the quietest monster game of the week in Pittsburgh: 101 rushing, 87 receiving with an 80-yard catch, and a touchdown each way. The Steelers are 3-2 and he is the engine.

Malik Nabers deserves his own line even in a tie: 11 catches for 121 and a score on 20 targets, with Jameis Winston throwing for 326 and three in the Giants' 27-27 draw in Washington. The volume is Lamb-tier. And Joe Burrow's reset game was a thing of beauty: four touchdowns on just 32 attempts in Cincinnati's 31-24 win in Miami, with Ja'Marr Chase back and scoring the same week he cleared protocol.

Fallers

Chicago is the week's cautionary tale. Without Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum combined for 195 yards and three interceptions in a 31-7 loss at Lambeau, Kyle Monangai's toe kept the league's Week 4 rushing star in street clothes, and a 3-1 start is now 3-2 with the division suddenly crowded. One injury took the whole operation down, which tells you what the operation was.

The Chargers are 0-5 and the offensive line has become the story: Justin Herbert threw for 121 yards and took five more sacks in a 23-17 home loss to Denver. Seattle hosted the 4-0 showdown and blinked, with Sam Darnold throwing two picks and taking five sacks in the 32-29 loss to San Francisco; the Niners are 5-0 having won every flavor of game. New Orleans benched-adjacent: Tyler Shough managed 96 yards and two picks against Minnesota's defense, and the Saints have scored 13 or fewer in three of five.

Dallas gets a special mention for losing outright at home to a team that was 0-4, as an 8.5-point favorite, on a short week they hosted. George Pickens' 130 yards papered over nothing. And Philadelphia's offense is in genuine crisis: 220 passing yards on 40 Hurts attempts, 20 team rushing yards behind a backfield down to its fourth option, and a 2-3 record, the full triage is in the injury column.

The filter before this touches your league pick

Same filter as the last report: roles over headlines. Maye's efficiency on real volume, Warren's 25 touches, Nabers' 20 targets, and Irving's second straight 20-carry game are roles. A tie in Washington and a 96-yard passing day in New Orleans are warnings. When your league votes this week, remember the board is missing Detroit, Minnesota, Cincinnati, and Miami on byes, which thins the trustworthy side of the slate considerably.
